ROCKWOOL is delighted to announce that its RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB® has become the first stone wool product to receive approval by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) for use in Ventilated rainscreen systems.

BBA certification is recognised throughout the construction industry and is a sought after accreditation for manufacturers. It is also incredibly important to specifiers, as it is a mark of quality, safety and reliability that provides reassurance of the product.

In order to achieve the BBA Agrément Certificate, products have to pass a series of comprehensive assessments, including laboratory tests, on-site evaluations, quality management checks and inspections of production. The RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB® was tested for factors such as thermal performance, condensation risk, behaviour in relation to fire, and durability in order to meet UK British Regulations. The ROCKWOOL product successfully met all these requirements and achieved certification status for use as a Hybrid frame system and Rainscreen system.

As the only stone wool product certified by the BBA for use in Ventilated rainscreen systems, this approval helps support and endorse ROCKWOOL’s key product messages:

  • Peace of mind and quality of life
  • Innovative products for modern life
  • Lasting, durable and resilient
  • Energy efficiency
  • Fire resilience
  • Health safety and wellbeing
  • Natural solutions and sustainability

“It is incredibly important to us to put our products through the BBA process, as the certification provides architects with peace of mind when specifying our products” comments Paul Barrett, Product Manager at ROCKWOOL. “It also reinforces the premise that we produce sustainable products that are innovative, durable and long lasting.”

Manufactured from volcanic rock, RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB® is a dual density insulation board that comprises of a robust outer surface and a resilient inner face. By compressing the primary fleece onto the top 15mm of the insulation, the product can be used, unprotected, in severe external weather, including strong wind and rain as experienced at high altitudes. As with all ROCKWOOL products, it’s fire resilient and complies with Approved Document B, achieving the highest Euroclass classification: A1. The high performance weber.rend MT multi-coat render system from Saint-Gobain Weber, the leading UK formulator and manufacturer of innovative materials, systems and solutions for the construction industry, has recently gained full BBA Certification. This accreditation meets NHBC requirements for new build housing where house builders are constantly seeking modern methods of construction for speed and cost efficiency. The weber.rend MT system is designed to rapidly finish buildings with a frame and panel construction.

weber.rend MT is a high performance, light-weight, render system which incorporates glass-fibre meshcloth reinforcement and a resin-rich adhesive coat that can carry a choice of textured finishes in a wide range of colours. This modern render system is designed for large areas of stable render carrier boards without the need for expressed joints to create smooth, modern design aesthetics. Equally weber.rend MT is ideal for uneven masonry or mixed substrates where crack resistance is essential.  Application can be by machine spray or by hand with a float and dry-sponge to achieve a render smooth finish.  It is ideal for a variety of synthetic textured and coloured finish coats to produce weatherproof, vapour permeable protection.

“Achieving BBA Certification for the well-proven weber.rend MT system underlines this product’s suitability for modern methods of frame and panel construction which is essential to speed the build process,” says Tracey Dempster, marketing manager, Saint-Gobain Weber. “The BBA testing has been carried out using three market leading render boards, Knauf Aquapanel, Siniat Bluclad and Euroform Rendaboard but equally the system is ideal for mixed substrates or repaired, uneven surfaces.  It is a very versatile render system.”

The British Board of Agrément is the UK’s leading authority providing accreditation and inspection services to manufacturers and installers that supply the construction industry. The BBA’s custom-built testing centre carried out extensive product tests on weber.rend MT including accelerated ageing analysis, weather resistance, impact strength, fire related performance and longevity to ensure the system performs satisfactorily for a period in excess of 30 years.  Holding BBA accreditation assures house builders, housing associations, building regulation authorities and contractors of the product quality and suitability for new build and regeneration projects.

The weber.rend MT system has been used by Barratt Homes to achieve the ‘Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year’ in the Housebuilder Awards for the Hanham Hall project of 185 bespoke, energy efficient homes.  The timber frame and SIP panel construction method determined the selection of a clean, simple aesthetic finish for the properties and the light-weight of the weber.rend MT system was of benefit here.

A BREEAM outstanding rating and the BREEAM Education Award has been achieved by a £39m school and community campus project in Bridgend, South Wales in the Gateway to the Valleys scheme where the weber.rend MT system has contributed significantly to the high levels of sustainability and low energy demands of the building.

Stirling Lloyd is proud to announce that its Eliminator Bridge Deck Waterproofing system has gained European Technical Assessment (ETA) certification from the European Organisation for Technical Approvals (EOTA) through the British Board of Agrément (BBA). The ETA is based on the testing requirements as set out in European Technical Approval Guideline (ETAG) 033. Eliminator is the first UK manufactured system to achieve this level of accreditation.

The ETA certificate confirms that Eliminator has been tested and meets the very latest, high-level European requirements that are specific to the waterproofing of bridge decks. Unlike most other systems, which use more generic standards to CE mark their materials, Eliminator is CE marked to a specific standard.

Clients, specifiers and contractors in EU Members States can be confident when selecting Eliminator that it fully complies with the EU’s design, installation and performance requirements. The certificate provides assurances that the product will perform to consistently high standards, helping to bring greater quality to the construction industry.

As well as confirming the effectiveness of Stirling Lloyd’s advanced polymer technology, Eliminator’s ETA certification provides the latest Factory Production Control (FCP++), which includes audits of production processes, QA/QC testing and full traceability of raw materials through to the finished product.

Eliminator has an unparalleled 30-year global track record. The product has already provided protection of over 15,000,000m2 of bridge deck, on more than 20,000 structures in over 60 countries, in extreme climates, on both road and rail, under heavy traffic on steel and concrete.

John Volpicelli, export director at Stirling Lloyd comments: “It’s fantastic news that Stirling Lloyd has received this ETA accreditation. We operate in many countries both in and outside Europe, and this high level of testing and auditing means all our clients can be assured that Eliminator meets the EOTA standards in manufacture, specification and performance. Stirling Lloyd is proud to be constantly improving standards in engineering.”

Dr Frank Swallow, technical director at Stirling Lloyd oversees all research and development and was heavily involved in the assessment. Frank commented: “During the assessment, BBA technical officers oversaw a large number of comprehensive tests on Eliminator, testing key features and validating the test reports.

“We were confident that our product would come through the assessment with flying colours, as all our products are put through rigorous in-house testing, to ensure they always exceed industry standards. The attainment of the internationally recognised ETA certification through the BBA demonstrates Stirling Lloyd’s commitment to high quality product innovation.”
